As coined by sociologist Émile Durkheim, the concept of Collective Effervescence describes the “feeling of energy and harmony when people are engaged in a shared purpose.” For our debut show, we explored the namesake of our collective — and this sociological concept — in 3 one-act works. The goal was to capture collective effervescence in 3 vastly different ways, by featuring 3 works that explore community and connection in 3 different capacities – by seeing community among humans with each other, community/harmony within the ever-developing versions of oneself, and community in nature.
Premiered February 2, 2024 at Dance Place. Presented in the Dance Place 2023 Co-Presentation Series.
Special thanks to Chynna Golding for all of her help, passion, and dedication to bringing the Collective to life, and for her guidance in the production of the show.
